The Trip

  Two local Businessmen Jerry Culleton of St. Andrews Realty and Brett Mitchell of The Selkirk Record plan to celebrate Canada's 150 year Anniversary paddling the same 1200 km route of the Selkirk Settlers in 1812  to York Factory, Manitoba by Canoe promoting local Tourism and Business for the Tri-S region 


The Route

From Lower Fort Garry in St. Andrews, paddling north on the Red River to and across Lake Winnipeg to Norway House, Nelson River to the historic Hayes River to York Factory. Retracing 1200 km 45 sets of whitewater rapids, 27 portages route of the Selkirk Settlers in 1812. Sir John Franklin used this same route in search of the north way passage in 1819. Hayes River was known as the main highway for The Hudson bay company and Indigenous people for over 250 years
